There’s a new player in the ongoing Russia Ukraine war – the anonymous hacker collective. Amid Russia’s attack against Ukraine, anonymous hackers claimed to have taken down several Russian government websites and RT.com, the website of the state-controlled television network.

The hacker collective made an announcement on Twitter yesterday, saying they are engaged in a ‘cyber war’ against the Russian government.

Some websites that were either taken down or slowed down by Anonymous. They include the Russian government, the Kremlin, the Duma and the Ministry of Defense.

In addition to RT.com, the hacker collective also launched distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks against the websites of Russian Internet service providers Com2Com, Relcom, Sovam Teleport and PTT-Teleport Moscow.

Various anonymous accounts were found on Twitter using the #Oprussia and #OpKremlin hashtags, similar to the #OpISIS campaign, which was earlier launched in an effort to stop the terrorist organization’s online propaganda efforts.

Most of these websites have now recovered.

Ukraine alleges Russia behind the massive cyberattack against the country

It came after Ukraine claimed that Russia was behind launching massive cyberattacks against its government websites and some banks, among other information technology companies.

Microsoft described the attack against Ukraine in a blog post, saying, “Malware, which is designed to look like ransomware. rather than designed to disable.” ,

Cyber attacks are one of the carriers being employed in modern warfare. Which can prove to be dangerous and have the potential to destroy the industrial infrastructure of the country.

Indeed, one of the Anonymous accounts had threatened to do just this to Russia earlier this month.
